Bu Hua (b.1973, Beijing) is a painter, printmaker, and digital animation pioneer. Graduated from the Academy of Arts & Design of Tsinghua University and later studied in the Netherlands and Germany, Bu Hua’s works have been presented across galleries and museums internationally, including in Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Paris, Sydney, San Francisco, Bangkok, Indonesia, and the Netherlands; and international biennales, including the Fukuoka Asian Art Triennial in Japan, the Shanghai Biennale in China, the Busan Biennale in Korea, etc.
Bu Hua’s animations, hand-crafted graphics, and digital art are in permanent collections of national museums, private galleries, foundations, and renowned collectors. She has been awarded The Young Artists of New Media Award of the International New Media Art Triennial, The Excellent Animation Award of China TV Association, The Top 10 New Directors Award and many more. Dr. Luise Guest’s book ‘Half the Sky: Chinese Women Artists’ features Bu Hua’s painting as the cover of the book.
