Liu earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a specialisation in ceramics from the National Art School, Darlinghurst/Gadigal Country, Australia (2022). Her studies for Fine Arts at NAS was a crucial turning point in her career where she experimented and re-explorated her use of textures where she found her true passion in materiality and making.
By manipulating the materials, she questions the distinction between painting and sculpture, reevaluating and exploring cultural identity while conveying innovative perspectives on contemporary life. She perceives beauty in fractured components retrieved from ruins as they depict a historical occasion when it was once complete. Detail in Liu’s work demonstrates her deliberate strategy of embedding intricacies within traditionally “masculine” materials.
