Wang Kaifang (b.1967, Beijing, China) currently lives and works in Beijing, China. He graduated from the Architecture Department of Beijing Architecture University in 1991. Wang is remarked as one of the most influential cross-disciplinary artists in China. While his artistic practice ranges from architecture, fashion, painting and photography, shimmering metallics and abstract shapes are the recurring motifs.
In 2011, one of his works was carried by the Shenzhou VIII spacecraft and successfully connected to Heavenly Palace 1. This was the first space travel of China’s contemporary art. His works are collected by numerous institutions, including the National Art Museum of China, Centre Pompidou, and the Austria Pavilion of EXPO 2010. He’s been commissioned by multiple renowned international luxury brands including Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Cartier, Coca Cola, Swarovski, HP and Johnnie Walker etc. and won multiple official awards including “the Most Influential Artist” from the China Ministry of Culture, “the Designer of the Year” in China, Interior Design “Hall of Fame” member and honoree.
