“When I learn to be alone in the wilderness, it seems that I own nothing, yet I have everything.” – Hua-Chen Huang
In Wilderness is a series of recollected experiences preserved from the artist’s journey. Hua-Chen in these new works has fully embraced the present. The natural landscapes she produces reflect the blissfulness she has found in the wilderness. In Wilderness is her story about walking to freedom.
Born in 1986 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Hua-Chen now lives and works in Taipei. She graduated from Taipei National University of the Arts in 2009 and also completed her M.F.A there in 2013 with a major in painting. In the same year, she received a National Culture and Arts Foundation Arts Travel grant to study at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, Finland.
Since then Hua-Chen has exhibited at major museums and alternative spaces in Taiwan. She has also participated in other exhibitions held in Berlin, New York, Helsinki, and Paris.
