Mountain, Unseen is Yang Jianyong’s first exhibition in Australia. Known for pioneering the language of “Song Painting Deconstruction,” Yang draws inspiration from Song-dynasty masters while reinterpreting their spatial structures and philosophical principles through a contemporary lens.
In his recent work, the “mountain” is no longer a physical topography but a landscape shaped by perception and memory. Using translucent washes of pigment, Yang creates scenes where forms appear light and atmospheric, inviting viewers to slow down, observe closely, and consider how landscape can be felt as much as it is seen.
