Echo Cai (b.1965, Beijing) is a Chinese Australian multidisciplinary artist based in Melbourne. Graduated from the prestigious Peking University (1988) before migrating to Australia in 1989, Cai’s work encompasses a wide range of creative activities and forms of expression including painting, writing, video and curation.
As a visual artist and published columnist, her practice enquires about the intersection between art and language. Echo’s work devotes to connecting and bringing Australian and Chinese cultures and arts together, exploring different ways to push the boundaries of art forms. Echo Cai was a finalist in the 42nd Alice Prize (2022), Bayside Acquisitive Art Prize (2022), Wyndham Art Prize (2018), a semi-finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize (2022), etc. Cai’s work has been widely shown in Australia and is held in private and public collections across Australia and China.
