Peiyuan Jiang (b.1983, Beijing) integrates the concepts of painting, printmaking, and sculpture through experimental practice, exploring painting both as material and subject matter. He emphasizes the materiality of paint and the process of image making, with an attempt to deconstruct the notion of painting and generate of a new concept as visual experience.
Peiyuan Jiang graduated with a MFA degree in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London (UAL). His works have widely been selected for awards, including Chris Wainwright Award from Beijing Today Art Museum (2012), John Moores Painting Prize, China (2012), Bloomberg New Contemporaries, UK (2009), Jerwood Drawing Prize, UK (2009), and BP Young Artist Award from the National Portrait Gallery, London (2008). He has exhibited in public institutions across London, France, and China, including AMNUA, Nanjing; Today art Museum, Beijing; Shanghai Oil Painting and Sculpture Institute; National Portrait Gallery, London; Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Wolverhampton; Aberdeen Art Gallery, Scotland; and Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Wales.
Peiyuan Jiang currently lives and works in Beijing.
